Ecclesiastes

The book of Ecclesiastes deals with the problems and limitations of human existence. It explores those times and circumstances when life seems to make no sense, the fultility of life and labour, the seeming absence of purpose and meaning. Humans fill their lives with pursuits and culture, perhaps, with amassing wealth, or perhaps merely with labour and suffering. But what is the point? What profit comes from any of it? Devastatingly, the book concludes that God has made the world like this deliberately. It is He who has buillt the unpredictability into life and the sense of emptiness and longing into human hearts. But He has done it for a solid and productive spiritual purpose, as the book goes on to explain. While the best course of action is to appreciate the good things in life for what they are, it's very important to remember that that is all they are, and to remember also that God will hold people accountable for their actions.
