Leviticus

The central book of the Pentateuch (the first five books of the Bible), Leviticus describes the sacrifices and laws the Israelites had to carry out and obey in order to remain in special covenant relationship with their God. The title 'Leviticus' is something of a misnomer, since the book has more to do with priests and the duties they had to carry out than it does with Levites (whose role is documented in the book of Numbers). While a lot of the legal material and the descriptions of the sacrificies can seem dull or even barbaric to a modern reader, the laws and sacrifices teach many important spiritual lessons which are still relevant today. In particular, the sacrifical system contains many lessons about the sacrificial work of the Lord Jesus Christ.
