Ezra provides historical information about the reestablishment of a Jewish nation in the land of Israel after their 70 year exile in Babylon. God had promised through Jeremiah that they would return, and the book of Ezra shows two phases of this process, as well as passing on some great spiritual lessons about the importance of dedication to God, of putting duty to Him before duty to self, of the need for persistence and perseverence, and of the importance of not forging connections in life which will tend to lead in a direction which will not please God.
